They are miniature magnifiers with a photograph attached. There is a tiny glass-rod lens (about 1/10" in diameter and 1/4" long) on which a image or picture is cemented. The magnifier is conical shaped., and are currently produced in plastic, although glass would produce a far superior product. They are mounted in small novelty badges or inexpensive jewelry.
